St. Michael's 2000s and 2010s neighborhoods

St. Michael took in Frankfort Township and then built across it, so the city's housing is mostly two decades old or less. The neighborhoods off Hwy 241 and around Frankfort Parkway are two-stories, splits and ramblers with the siding those years used: vinyl on the mid-range homes, hardboard on the early ones, and LP SmartSide with a factory finish on most of the later ones. Fiber cement shows up on the higher-end lots. These are open-lot houses on former farmland with young trees, so the south and west walls take full sun and the dark trim and siding colors fade and chalk there first. Wind-driven rain gets behind any caulk the builder left short. The first repaint is mostly a wash, a check of every bottom edge on the hardboard homes, new caulk at every window and corner, primer on the worn spots, and two coats. Where a hardboard bottom course has swollen, we replace the boards rather than paint over them.
